About
The Project
S.H.E.R.P. was founded in 1999, by teacher and child rights activist Grace Seneiya, and has now received over 100 disabled children with open arms, providing them with education, medical care, and hope for a life full of new opportunities.
Disabled children in the Samburu region of Kenya are often considered to be a liability and often a curse to their nomadic families and many have suffered severe neglect by the time they reach the steps of the S.H.E.R.P. centre.
Children at S.H.E.R.P. are given opportunities many have never dreamed possible. A young deaf child can hear the sounds of Kenya again with hearing aids. A blind child can read alongside other children using a Braille storybook. Children with severe health issues can receive the care and medical attention they desperately require.
